So Near, But So Far

“And everything gone and all still to come. As nothing to us, together as one. In each other’s arms, so near and so far. Forever as now. Underneath the stars...”
The Cure, Underneath the Stars
Hearing hypnotic waves
Softly lick the shore
Hearing their soft whispers
Swishing with one another
With the night sky
And with you, sitting by my side
Underneath the stars
Watching the sun slowly sink
Into the twilight
Melting into the sky
Forming a pleasure dome
Like a blanket of calmness and security
Hovering above the night sky
And of us sitting side by side
Underneath the stars
The evening sleeps so peacefully
I could last here forever in this pleasure dome
Surrounded by stars and light
Of milky ways and galaxies
Of your voice mingling
With the whispering wind
And with you sitting by my side
Underneath the stars
Everything collapses like dying stars imploding in on themselves
You couldn’t last here forever
In this pleasure dome
Now surrounded by black-holes and emptiness
But your voice haunts me
As I sit alone
Underneath the stars
Hearing hallow waves
Wash up the empty shore
Hissing to each other
To the bleak sky
And to me, sitting alone
Grasping onto memories
Where you sat by my side
Underneath the stars
Your voice lingers in my head
With the waves’ soft whispers
They endlessly hum with the night air
Like nightingales endlessly singing,
Calling for me
With their never-ending cries
Wishing you were here
Sitting by my side
Underneath the stars
I long for a connection and beg for your presence
In a pleasure dome
Surrounded by stars and light
But when I look up
I know that you are too
Looking up at the same night sky
Underneath the stars
I see pulses of light
Binding us together
Your presence is so near
But so far
Contained in our pleasure dome
Underneath the stars
Hearing hypnotic waves
Softly lick the shore
Hearing their soft whispers
Swishing with one another
With the night sky
And with us, sitting together as one
Underneath the stars
